Although the University of Central Florida was founded in 1963, and its first classes were held in 1968, the UCFPD was not founded until 1973.〔〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Facts About UCF )〕 Before 1973, the campus was patrolled by local municipal and county sheriff's office. Today, the university has partnership agreements with a number of neighboring police departments, including the Orlando Police Department, Orange County Sheriff's Office and Seminole County Sheriff's Office. These departments also provide auxiliary officers for high-attendance and high-risk events, such as events at the CFE Arena and Bright House Networks Stadium, as well as visits by dignitaries. Under Florida statute, university police officers are state law enforcement officers, and the department's jurisdiction includes all UCF property, and an area within of any university property or facilities.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=1012.97 - University Police - 2011 Florida Statutes - The Florida Senate )〕 The current chief of police, Richard Beary, is the brother of former Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary, who earned a master's degree from UCF.
